Coming soon....pork!

This past week, our youngest son Kolby diversified our operation by adding pigs! They are a welcome addition, not just because we love animals, but also because they expand the ecosystem of our farm. We are big proponents of using natural solutions and processes to manage our farm because we believe this is the most healthful for our land and livestock.

These pigs came from a friend of ours who hand raised them from piglets. They are friendly and gentle and certainly enjoy their nice big mud puddle. Kolby and I spent much of the day Tuesday and part of Wednesday building them the shelter you see in the picture. Kolby paid for all of the supplies from the proceeds of the sale of his sheep to his brother Tyler. He is very excited to have his own operation apart from his brother!

He will be breeding these pigs in the coming weeks and plan to have pork ready for sale later this fall. The proceeds from his pork sales will go toward his college savings.
